The main awards of the World Tango Championship remained in Buenos Aires
The competition was held in two categories, which are considered official at all other competitions (if there are other categories): “tango for the dance floor” (tango de pista) and “tango for the stage” (tango escenario). Most of the participants compete in the “tango for the dance floor” category. Some couples participate in both categories - this is a lot of work, in fact, such couples have two World Cups.
Luis Squicciarini and Evgenia Samoilova are one of these couples. In the “tango for stage” category, they won the qualifying rounds of the European Championships in Russia, later becoming European champions. The title gave them the right to immediately qualify for the finals, bypassing the preliminary stages. If desired, the couple can dance in the semi-finals, but the judges do not evaluate their dance. Louis and Eugenia decided to use the opportunity to perform in the semi-finals: the audience applauded very loudly and for a long time. In the “tango for the dance floor category, the Russian couple started from the very beginning - the qualifying competitions of the qualification stage. The main awards of the World Argentine Tango Championship remained in Buenos Aires.

This year, the organizers added one more category (subcategory “tango for the dance floor” for ages 55+) - senior. After all, tango in Argentina has no age, and access to participation is open to everyone. The finals on September 2nd began with a ronda in the senior category, all of whose participants were Argentinians. The audience gave a standing ovation to the winners Sergio Decrin and Sandra Leal. This is the 6th year that online voting has been held - viewers choose a couple of their favorites in both categories on the site. Russia also actively supported our dancers. In the “tango for the dance floor” category, the audience gave their sympathies to Carlitos Estigarribia & Marina Alcalde Sainz, in the “tango for the stage” - Federico Paleo & Luciana Francheli from the show “La Turca”.
Johnny Carvajal and Suay Quiroga, who represent the Argentine capital, won in the Salon Tango category.
In the Stage Tango category, first place was taken by Julian Sanchez and Bruna Estellita, also from Buenos Aires.
The World Argentine Tango Championship celebrates its 20th anniversary. This year, 650 couples from 35 countries took part in it. The final was watched by 20 thousand spectators.
